AMRITSAR: Three persons, including a deserted Punjab Home Guard jawan, were arrested by the police for allegedly strangling goldsmith Bhishamber Dassin the Kot Atma Ram locality of the city. A police spokesman said all accused Anil Kumar, brother of the victim, Surjit Singh, and Satnam Singh, a deserted Punjab Home Guard jawan had killed the victim last month after he came to know about the involvement of the trio in various crimes, including looting people at gun point.
The spokesman said after killing his brother with the help of his two accomplices, Anil Kumar lodged a complaint with the police stating his brother was killed by militants, who were armed with assault rifles. Anil Kumar, also alleged that after strangling his brother, the militants escaped with a kg of silver.
However, after a detailed investigation, DSP (City) Chaman Lal arrested all three and recovered the stolen silver, and a self-loading rifle.
