MADRAS: At least 28 Lankan Tamils including two involved in smuggling were arrested following a special drive to arrest Tamils staying in Ramanathapuram district without having registered with the authorities in the refugee campsor with the foreigners’ registration office there.

V Balachandran superintendent of police told PTI that the two Sri Lankan Tamils were nabbed when they were attempting to smuggle diesel. The two had also set up a shop in Rameshwaram area to buy diesel and other commodities to be smuggled to Sri Lanka.

While the two of the 28 have been arrested on charges of smuggling the rest were arrested under Indian passports and foreign nationals act.
