CHANDIGARH: About 25 percent link roads in Punjab with a total length of 8000km are still not traffic worthy because of breaches caused by the recent floods in the State.
According to official sources, Tink roads with a length of 16,500 km had been damaged’ by the floods and only 50 percent of them had been repaired so far. The total length of link roads, which have helped green revolution reach every village to the State, is 38,500 km.
The repair is being done on a war footing by the Public Works Department and the Mani (agricultural marketing) board in the 67:33 ratio.
The roads on which traffic has not been restored so are Ajnata Fatehgarh Churian, Fatehgarh Churian — Ramdas (Amritsar district). Lohian Gidderpini (Kapusthala), Sidwan Mahalpur, Neelon Bridge, and Rattangarh Ghumana (Ludhiana) and KhaiMandot, Amir Khas Midda, Pindi Ghazaniwala, Tibbi Kalan, Lakha Haji,. Makhu-giddar Pindi, Dharamkot, Jogowala and ShahkorDharamkot.
The roads in Ferozepur city damaged by the floods are yet to be made traffic worthy.
