CHANDIGARH: Violence continued unabated in Punjab as 12 persons, including three policemen and four freedom fighters were killed and over Rs 2.1 million looted in the state since Tuesday night.

Three Punjab police constables were killed in separate incidents in Ropar, Patiala and Ludhiana districts, police said.

Two scooter-borne terrorists shot dead constable Sukhvinder Singh, in Kular village of Ludhiana district Wednesday.

A hardcore militant, Joginder Singh Nihang, was killed in an encounter at a farmhouse in village Fatehabad of Amritsar district.

In another incident in the district, Balwinder Singh was killed in village Sheoke.

Armed men looted over Rs 21 lakh meant for disbursement of staff salaries, from a private milk plant at Moga Wednesday morning.

The miscreants escaped in a car after snatching the money at pistol point from the plant canteen, police said.

Two of three unidentified intruders from Pakistan were killed in an encounter on the border in the Dera Baba Nanak sector, official sources said.

Militants also kidnapped three persons during the period, reports said.

Manjit Singh was killed on the outskirts of Amritsar city early Wednesday.

One Bhola Mahajan was shot dead in Dina Nagar in Gurdaspur district.

Baldey Singh and Anoop Kumar were kidnapped from village Diswala in Ferozepur district and Anoop Singh from Sardulgarh in Gurdaspur district.

Twelve people were killed, two militants arrested and a nationalized bank looted in Punjab since Monday night, police said here Tuesday, a PTI Feb 6 report said. Those falling to the bullets included four freedom fighters three of them killed in inter-gang rivalry, and four intruders from Pakistan.

Militants fired in a branch of Canara bank in village Sursinghwala under Bhikhiwind police station in Amritsar district shortly before noon injuring a depositor. The miscreants later escaped with over Rs 20,000, two guns and some ammunition of the bank, police said.

Militants shot dead one person in village Nathewala in Faridkot district. The assailants knocked at his door and killed him as he opened the door.

Four intruders were killed in the Ferozepur sector of the Indo Pak border, official sources said here Tuesday night.

A report from Amritsar said in a case of inter group rivalry three men were killed in village Dubbli on Monday night. The bullet-ridden bodies of the three were recovered on Tuesday.
