NEW DELHI (PTI): There were 22 People including three militants, were killed and 76 subversives nabbed by the security forces during the last week in northern state of Kashmir.

A judicial enquiry by a sitting high court judge was ordered by the Jammu and Kashmir Govt. on Jan, 14 into the Sopore incident, which occurred on Jan.6 and reportedly claimed 40 lives.

 

State Govt. sources said the cases registered after the incident would be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the commandant of the Border Security Force (BSF) and five constables of the force have been placed under supervision.

Meanwhile curfew relaxation was withdrawn on Jan.15 by the authorities from Sopore town in the wake of an all-party meeting organized by all political leaders to express solidity with the grief stricken population of Sopore.

The Jammu and Kashmir governor went on an unscheduled visit to New Delhi on the summons of Prime Minister Narasimha Rao on Jan.15. The summon is being viewed as significant in official and political circles in the background of the reported unhappiness ¢expressed by two union ministers on handling of the Sopore incident.

On Jan.18, two militants once of them a platoon commander of a militant outfit, were killed in exchange of fire between police and militants, on the same day police nabbed 47 militants.

About four to six thousand Kashmir subversives are wailing across the line of control in Pak occupied Kashmir to sneak into India.
