INOORE — At least 21 people were killed and 200 injured in Hindu Muslim clashes in Madhya Pradesh prompting authorities to impose an indefinite curfew in at least three towns.
Of the injured, at least 60 were in a critical condition, sources said. Six fire tenders were damaged and five firemen injured in the violence.
An entire slum area was set on fire as miscreants allegedly went on a rampage and indulged in arson and looting following a procession taken out to celebrate the Muslim EID festival, police and fire brigade, PT adds.
The nearby cantonment town of Mhow was also placed under indefinite cur few as a precautionary measure. The town was just limping back to normalcy after a bout of violence and subsequent curfew last week.
The situation in both places was “tense but under control,” police said.
According to the latest reports the police fired a few rounds on Oct. 16, to disperse anti-social elements and fresh cases of arson were reported late Sunday night in this city of central state of Madhya Pradesh.
There was no letup in the curfew, imposed in the city on Saturday last following mob violence that left 25 dead and 68 injured.
Police fired a few rounds on miscreants in Chandrabhaga area in Juni Indore. No casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, security forces were patrolling vulnerable spots of the city.
