POONCH: Indian security forces have been put on maximum alert in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri in northern Jammu and Kashmir state following reports that over 2,000 Pak trained militants with sophisticated arms and ammunition, were trying to sneak into India from the other side of the line of actual control,
Official sources said 19 routes, identified as infiltration routes of militants, were sealed and patrolling intensified.
Some of the men who received training along with Afghan rebels at Chirat and Kanhat were also among the 2000 militants, the sources said.
Some militants who recently surrendered in Surankot said some Sikh men from Punjab who have also received training in Pakistan have formed a joint strategy with Kashmiri militants to strike in Jammu division.
According to Abdul Hameed, one of the eight subversives who surrendered at Surankot police station, “the object behind the strikes in Jammu division was to divert pressure of security forces on militants in Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, security in and around places of worship was tight end in Rajouri and Poonch and constant vigil was being maintained.
