COLOMBO: Fourteen Muslim farmers were among 20 people killed in Sri Lanka since Tuesday night, military officials here said.

LTTE militants shot dead 14 Muslim farmers and injured three in eastern Akkaraipattu. Confirming the incident military officials said they were still awaiting details.

A spokesman for the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress said 17 farmers returning to their village after harvesting were attacked around 2130 hrs. While 14 were shot dead three others managed to escape with minor bullet injuries, Mr Wafflers Farooq of the Muslim congress said.

In other incidents, four Tamil militants and two policemen have been killed in clashes between government forces and LTTE activists.

Ten policemen, including an officer were also seriously injured in these incidents.
