CHANDIGARH: Two senior Satluj Yamuna Link canal officials were gunned down here for executing the controversial project. They are chief engineer MS.L. Sekhri and superintending engineer Avtar Singh.
The Four militant organisations, KLF, KCF, AISSF and Babbar Khalsa owned responsibility for the action in the Sector 2 6 head office of SYL warned all IAS officers and engineers who had a hand in the project that they would have to account for their anti-Sikh misdeeds,
In the shootout on Monday morning, executive engineer SK Goyal PA to the chief engineer Ravi Khanna and a peon Bhola Shankar received injuries but were declared in stable condition Sekhri was holding a meeting in his office when four armed militants pushed their way through and shot the two officers.
The site is close to the Police Station and Balwant Singh’s residence that was killed recently.
The SYL project was conceived by the late Indira Gandhi in the face of opposition from Punjab. The state opposed it as the constitution gave it total rights to the three rivers and Punjab farmers needed the water.
However Gandhi and her son pushed ahead with the scheme to please Hindu farmers in Haryana, It was in this betrayal of the Sikhs that the Rajiv Longowal accord was signed to give legitimacy to the illegal project. ~ Akali DAI chief SS Mann and Congress1 secretary Jagmeet Singh Brar recently opposed the Project. Brar announced a plan to Start filling up the canal on August 15. On the other hand Badal and other Akalis have been put on the defensive and are hard put to explain their roles in the project.
