CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Administration ordered a magisterial enquiry into the police raids on the houses of two executive magistrates and their detention by the local police.
The Executive magistrates are Mr Jamail Singh and Mr N.S.Brar who; are also Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioners on deputation from Punjab to the Chandigarh Administration. While the former was detained at the Sector 17 police station the latter resisted the detention by insisting on seeing the warrants of arrest.
The Adviser Mr Baleshwar Rai said the enquiry had been entrusted to the Sub divisional Magistrate Mr Jagit Puri He has been asked to submit the report within two days. Mr Baleswar Rai told TNS that a police party visited the house of Mr Jamail Singh around midnight and asked him to accompany them immediately as they had to go on a raid under instructions from the District Magistrate Mr Krishan Mohan Mr Jarnail Singh accompanied the police party which brought him straight to the Sector 17 police station where he was detained. He was released in the early hours of the morning following the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner Mr Krishan Mohan.
The Adviser added that the police also went to the house of Mr Brar after mid night and told him that they had come to arrest him. However Mr Brar did not accompany them and insisted on being shown the warrants of arrest.
However the police claimed that its economic offences wing had registered a case under Sections 420 467 468 and 471 L.P.C. against Mr Jarnail Singh and Mr Brar apart from Ms Sunanda Sood and her father on a complaint of Mr N.D. Khurana a landlord of Sector 38.
