LUDHIANA: Mr Sikatar Singh of Akali Dal Panthic contesting for Lok Sabha seat from Ludhiana and Vidhan Sabha seat of Dakha reserve was shot dead at Dakha 18 km from here May 10.
He was also the general secretary of the Akali Dal panthic led by Mr Rajdev Singh ex MP. :
Mr Sikatar Singh was sitting in a shop. As soon as he came out of the shop two scooter bore men fired at him. His two gunmen of Punjab police rushed out and fired at the assailants but they escaped.
The election to the Jalandhar cantonment assembly constituency of Punjab was countermanded Monday following the killing of an independent.
The body of Kamaljit Singh an independent contesting the state assembly polls was found by the police on the outskirts of Jalandhar City on May 11.
Since there were no immediate claimants the body was cremated by the municipal authorities.
Police however said Kamaljit Singh’s belongings had been identified by his relatives.
Earlier four other candidates contesting the polls in the state had been killed. Two of them were fighting from two seats each.
So far polls to six assembly seats and one parliamentary constituency have been countermanded in Punjab.
