BOMBAY: In an early morning encounter on Jan.16 two hard core Punjab militants and. police officer were killed while three policemen received bullet injuries when police stormed into a house at Tagore Nagar in Vikhroli North-East Bombay Thursday.
Militants opened fire in a vain bid to give the slip to the police — who reached their hide-out following a tip off-and also hurled hand grenades in which police officer Raju Jadhav was killed.
However house owner Balraj Singh and his wife along with two militants Joga Singh and a woman managed to escape
A PTI correspondent who visited the site saw blood splattered all over the place with the bodies of the two militants one of them identified as Darshan Singh lying on the door-steps and another: behind the house.
After a search of the hide-out police laid hands on photographs of some hard-core Punjab militants besides the Ak-40 assault rifles used by the militants in the firing.
The anti-bomb and dog squad was summoned to the spot and. police have stepped up patrolling all over the city.
