BOMBAY: Two persons were killed when a tanker carrying oleum gas over turned and caught fire and hundreds were affected by the gas leak at Wadghav village, about 60 kms from here Wednesday night.

The vehicles cleaner and his relative were burnt alive. Resi dents of the industrial town of Bhiwandi panicked as thick clouds of oleum enveloped surrounding localities. People rushed to nearby hospitals and were given treatment, for chest congestion, suffocation and irritation in the eyes. However, no one was seriously affected, police said.

Fire brigade personnel from nearby places plugged the leakage and chemical companies in the neighborhood rushed soda ash to the place to neutralize the gas. Police advised people to drink enough water to reduce the effect of the gas.
