RUGELEY England: Two people were killed and at least 44 taken to hospital today after two express trains packed with weekend travelers collided head on in Central England police said.

Fire and rescue officials said dozens more people suffered less serious injuries in the accident at Rangeley some 10 miles (16 km) north of Birmingham

A driver of one of the trains was believed among the dead. The trains one from Liverpool to London and the other from the British capital to Manchester were travelling at speeds of up to 100 mile (160 km) an hour.

Eleven coaches were derailed in the accident a British rail official said adding that the state-run railway would hold an inquiry into the accident.
