SCARBOROUGH: A 16-yr-old Scarborough youth who gave a fellow student a concussion is the first to be threatened with lifetime expulsion under a new zero-tolerance policy on violence in the city’s public schools.

Few details of the case will be released to protect the students’ rights prior to the expulsion hearing to be held by trustees Jan.17 Heath said.

Police were called but no charges were laid. The 16-yr-old was handed a mandatory 20-day suspension and will not be allowed-back in school before the expulsion hearing.

The expulsion recommendation filed by the school principal was mandatory under the board’s new policy because there was serious injury requiring medical intervention Heath said.
