NEW DELHI: Nineteen of the 44 Indian federal ministers, who had contested the parliamentary elections had to bite the dust.

Among the losers, minister of state for education LP Shahi had the dubious distinction of being beaten by the highest mar gin of 250,000 votes.

Except Sumati Oraon, all the other four central ministers from northern Bihar state in the fray fell by the way side. They were LP Shahi (Muzaffarpur), Krishna Sahi (Begusarai), D L Baitha (Arrab) and K K Tewary (Buxar)

The other 16 losers included several from neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh.

The Ministers who lost in the state were Mohsina Kidwai (Meerut), ZR Ansari (Unnao), H K Shastri (Fatehpur), K Nat war Singh (Mathura), Sheila Dikshit (Kan nauj) and S L Yadav (Varanasi.

The result of the Pratapgarh seat, where Dinesh Singh is contesting, has been withheld due to tampering of 15 ballot boxes.

The remaining unsuccessful ministers were Buta Singh (Jalore), R N Mirdha (Nagaur), Jagdish Tytler (Delhi Sadar), B K Gadhvi (Banaskantha), Rajesh Pilot (Bharatpur), Sukh Ram (mandi), P R Dasmunshi (Howrah), P Namgyal (La dakh) and R K Malaviya (Shahjapur).

The winning members of the cabinet, included Gandhi, who beat Rajmohan Gandhi from Amethi by 210,000 votes.
