KUALA LUMPUR (PTI) Thailand’s soldiers Thursday found 16 bodies of Myanmar’s soldiers believed killed when they intruded into Thai territory early this month.
Some ammunition was discovered during the army’s land clearing operation near Wang Kaew village in Taks Mae sod district where Myanmar’s troops crossed into Thailand during their offensive against ethnic Karen forces.
The bodies some in believed to be Myanmar’s soldiers killed as they were launching heavy attacks on Karen strongholds from the rear on March 14.
A Myanmar’s radio reported earlier that 84 government troops were killed in their offensive operation on that day.
Thai soldiers could clear only part of the village and nearby farmland because fighting between the Karen rebels and Myanmar’s forces near the borders was still heavy reports received here from Bangkok said.
For the past few years the Myanmar’s army has failed in its attempts to capture the Karen’s Kaw Moon Ra camp opposite Thailand’s Mae Sod district During the recent attack the Myanmar’s crossed the Thai border to attack the camp from the rear.
