Chandigarh: 157 members of the S.G.P.C. Jatha have been refused permission by the Punjab government to go to Nankana Sahib (Pakistan ) to participate in Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birthday celebrations.
The Jatha is scheduled to leave for ten days on November 22; 1985.S.G.P.C. had submitted a list of 1980 persons as per the quota fixed for it. The S.G.P.C. has been informed through a letter by the State Home Secretary that permission to visit Nankana Sahib could not be given to 157 persons out of their list. No reason has been given for the refusal. 97 of those who have been refused permission belong to Ludhiana district while 50 belong to Amritsar district.
