CHANDIGARH: Militants kidnapped a relative of the Director General of Punjab police D.S.Mangat and an “area commander” of the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) was among 20 persons killed in state of Punjab Aug 19 over the week 140 persons lost their lives.

A report from Amritsar quoted police sources as saying that three hardcore militants of the KLF were killed in an encounter with security forces in village Khabe Dogran in Tarn Taran police district Monday night.
One of them was identified as Balwinder Singh alias “Chatra” an area commander of the KLF. The militants were wanted in many crimes police said.
