NEW DELHI, India, Sept. 7, Reuter: At least 14 policemen were wounded in a bomb blast on Monday in India’s northern state of Tripura as opposition groups called ‘a two day strike to demand the resignation of the State’s Chief Minister.

The Press Trust of India (PTD) quoted police saying the bomb was thrown by supporters of the Opposition Congress (I) Party as the strike brought business to a standstill.

Congress (I), which rules the Central government in New Delhi, called the strike after three of its members were killed fighting Communists with knives in an eruption of political violence in Tripura on Friday.

Police said they fired four shots in the air on Monday to disperse Congress supporters. Congress (I) says the government is failing to tackle violence by separatist tribesmen in Tripura and wants the imposition of direct rule from New Delhi.
