BRAMPTON,CANADA: A $14.6 million project for the city Of Brampton, approved under the Canada/Ontario infrastructure Works program, will create an estimated 213 person years of employment and five long term jobs, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for Infrastructure Ant Eagleton, Brampton M_P. Colleen Beaumier. Ontario Municipal Affairs Minister Ed Philip and Mayor Peter Robertson announced Nov.22. Funding will be used for a major project for Queen’s Square. The work will include: * Constriction of a 600 space underground parking garage; = Extension of Nelson Street West To connect to Queen Square at Chapel Street; * Realignment of Union Street to connect to the new Nelson Street extension; +Replacement of the existing separation at Union Street under the Canadian National Railway tracks to facilitate future expansion of the railway tracks.
‘The project will encourage new business and residential development in downtown Brampton by providing needed parking, improved traffic circulation and improved commuter rail service. The work is expected to start soon and will be completed by the fall of 1996.
“This project paves the way for the revitalization of the downtown cote,” said Brampton M.P. ColIeen Beaumier. “The many medium and long term jobs generated by this project will be of great benefit to many individuals and families in Brampton.
Ms., Beaumier was pleased with the awarding of the project under the Canada/Ontario Infrastructure Works program. She lobbied at the federal level for its approval. Ms. Beaumier added that the project serves notice that Brampton is committed to commercial development in its downtown core.
