July 2: A special police officer and a village head were among five persons killed.

The SPO, posted as gunman of a former parliamentarian Rajdev Singh, was killed in inter-gang rivalry, police said.

While four more SPOS posted as the former MP’s gunment were nabbed for resorting to extortions, snatching of weapons and robbery, three other SPOS posted with Rajdev Singh were absconding, police said.

Rajdev Singh is contesting election from the Sangrur parliamentary seat.

The bullet riddled body of Mohinder Singh, the village head of Fatehgarh Churian in Batala police district, was recovered from a drain in Naina Chack Tuesday.

July 1: Eight militants and two paramilitary soldiers were among the 18 persons killed.

Eleven militants were nabbed along with large quantities of arms in the state during the same period.

Balwinder Singh, a home guard was beaten to death by residents of Wirang Suba Singh village in Amritsar district.

Two militants were killed in a gun battle with security men in Bhuwala village in Amritsar district on Sunday.

June 30: Sixteen militants, including top ranking Jasbir Singh of the Khalistan Liberation Army, and a senior Sikh religious leader were among 27 killed in Punjab Sunday.

A large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the killed militants.

A Jalandhar report said about 300kms of the 533 km long Punjab border with Pakistan has been fenced so far to curb infiltration by armed militants.

Director General of the border security force in the Punjab frontiers H P Bhatnagar told reporters that a 120 km long fence was set up in the first phase while the work on a 236 km fence in the second phase was near completion.

Jasbir Singh alias Kala alias Amrik Singh, wanted in several crimes, and an associate were killed in an encounter with a joint police and BSF patrol near Talwandi Naka in Gurdaspur district Sunday night, reports received here said.

When signaled to stop, they opened fire at the security men. The two were shot dead in the return firing. A third accomplice, however, escaped.

June 29: Ten militants and two body guards of an independent candidate were among 29 people killed Friday.

Militants also kidnapped two persons in the state during the period.

According to police, militants shot dead constables Lakhvir Singh and Sukhvinder Singh, gunmen of Karnail Singh, an in dependent candidate from the Majitha assembly constituency, at his house in village Balkarpur on Friday night.

Karam Singh, a militant on bail, was killed in village Bhummaddi in Ludhiana district.

June 27: Twenty persons were killed in Wednesday.

Former vice-president of SGPC committee, Apex temple management committee of the Sikh community, and 11 militants were among those killed.

A militant, who was carrying a bomb, was killed and another per son was injured when it blasted in village Bhanupur Kale on the outskirts of Amritsar.

Reports said the militant was carrying the bomb in a bag to be placed at the grave of a saint in the village where people gathered to pay homage every Thursday.

Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in village Buttewala in Ferozepore district.

One jeep, one AK47 rifle, one gun and about 300 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene.

June 26: Seventeen persons, including eight militants and a gunman of Superintendent of police (operation) Ludhiana, were killed.

Militants also kidnapped a person during the period.

The bullet ridden body of police constable who was the gunman of S P (operation) Ludhiana, who was earlier kidnapped, was found near a village in Ludhinan district.

The militants took away the gunman’s AK47 rifle and a Mauser handgun.

Militants shot dead three persons at a house in a village in Ropar district on Wednesday.

An unidentified militant consumed cyanide and died when security forces raided his hide out in Majitha police.
