BIDAR: Tension prevailed on Sunday in this north Karnataka city following Saturday’s blast in a cinema theatre which, police said, left 10 dead and 28 injured.
Additional police forces have been summoned from Hubli and Gulbarga to maintain law and order in the city, which was the scene of communal riots in 1988. Strict vigil is being maintained and prohibitory orders have been clamped for five days from Saturday night. Police said the situation was largely under control.
The state Chief Minister, Veerendra Patil, is reaching here on Monday to make an on the spot study of the situation.
Addressing a news conference, the divisional commissioner of Gulbarga, A.K. Aggarwal urged Reporter’s “not to jump to any hasty conclusion” about the motive for the incident and said a departmental enquiry was in progress to find out the reasons.
Explosives experts, who had conducted an examination and were present at the news conference, said what had exploded was not a crude bomb or time bomb or a remote controlled device, but either nitro glycerin, or nitro compounds. No safety fuse or fusion material had been found.
