STOCKTON: The US. State Department in response to a letter from Congressman Gary Condit has expressed concern for the human rights violations against Sikhs in India. The State Dept. has made known its concern to the Indian govt.
In addition several stirs were reported in the annual country reports to Congress on Human Rights practices including the most recent edition of Feb 21.
The letter goes on to detail the “new steps” initiated by the VP Singh Govt in Punjab. The State Dept. will monitor the situation in Punjab and make known concern should there be any reversal.
The letter concludes however with dismay at acts of “terrorism” by Sikhs. It also states it has no evidence that barring a minute number Punjabi Sikhs do not favor independence from India.
