GUWAHATI: The high court in this capital city Assam has admitted a writ petition challenging the April 24 notification of the election commission changing the date of the Assam polls from May 31 to June 6 and 9.

The petitimner Ria Chowdhury the united minorities Front (UMF) candidate for the parliamentary constituency of Nagaon Wednesday contended that the notification was in excess of the power of the commission and that the poll results in the rest of the country would influence the voting pattern in Assam.

8 ‘chmwdhkry sought relief in two forms either to keep counting and announcement of the results in the rest of the country in abeyance till June 8 or prepone the dates of the Assam polls.
